Indonesia’s Military Modernisation

The recent demonstration flight of an UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) in the sky of East Jakarta launched Indonesia’s drone development programme, which mainly aims to improve border control. 

But this programme is just one pixel of the bigger picture, whereby Indonesia’s defence policy is set on creating a “modern, integrated armed force that is able to anticipate security challenges in the 21st century”. 

Knowing that several components of the UAVs are imported from Europe, there are prospects for cooperation on the security and technology levels; this article will attempt to formulate those prospect.
